RALEIGH, N.C. — Governor Roy Cooper said five deaths have been confirmed as a result of Florence, as the storm continues to slowly move across the Carolinas.

Cooper said people who would like to help the relief efforts could go to governor.nc.gov or text “Florence” to 20222.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol says most of their calls are for fallen trees and power lines blocking roads.  The Department of Transportation says roads are continuing to worsen and conditions could change at anytime.  Adding that many primary roads are closed in eastern North Carolina

North Carolina Emergency Management Director Mike Sprayberry said search and recovery efforts should be easier now that tropical storm force winds have passed the eastern part of the state.
