ANSON COUNTY, N.C. — A CSX train headed to Hamlet derailed several rail cars near Gravel Plant Road in LilesvilleΒ on Sunday.
CSX personnel and Anson County emergency personnel responded to the area where they say a total of nine locomotives and five rail cars derailed.
The derailed cars were carrying hazardous material and none spilled their contents.
Some of the locomotives released an undetermined amount of diesel fuel and motor oil. CSX is coordinating closely with the US Environmental Protection Agency through the recovery process.
The train crew was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries Sunday night.
No fire was reported.
The incident is under investigation.
