PARK(ing) Day

Friday, September 21

10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.

NoDa, Plaza Midwood, South End

Twenty parking spaces in three Charlotte neighborhoods will become unique public parks for a day as part of Charlotte PARK(ing) Day 2018, organized by Charlotte Center City Partners, the American Society of Landscape Architects-Charlotte Chapter and Urban Design Partners.

Temporary parks will be erected in parking spaces in the following neighborhoods:

  • South End — Six spaces on Camden Road between Park and Kingston avenues
  • NoDa – Four spaces on North Davidson Street between 34th and 35th streets
  • Plaza Midwood – 10 spaces on Pecan Avenue between Central and Commonwealth avenues

The mission of PARK(ing) Day is to call attention to the need for more urban open space, to generate critical debate around how public space is created and allocated, and to improve the quality of urban human habitat.

Festival in the Park

Friday, September 21-Sunday, September 23

Freedom Park

Since 1964, Festival in the Park has been bringing good music, good art and good times to Charlotteans and visitors from around the world. The sounds of “big band music” drift across Freedom Park’s lake whose still surface reflects the lights strung from Camelot exhibit tents. This fun filled event is designed to promote and stimulate interest in the arts. It provides the opportunity for all to see, hear, and learn from over 150 artists and crafts people who actively demonstrate and display their art. Nearly a thousand entertainers provide free ongoing performances at the main band shell and many stages surrounding it.
