Community Gathers To Honor Life Of Infant Killed By Storm

GASTON COUNTY, NC — Friends and family came together to mourn the loss of a three-month-old baby who was killed in Gaston County on Sunday. The baby was in his mother’s arms when a tree came crashing onto their mobile home.

Arm in arm, dozens of people gathered lighting candles, saying prayers, singing, remembering a life that was taken too soon. A memorial grew at baby Kade Gill’s family home on Tuesday during a candlelight vigil.

Family members of the baby are still trying to process what happened.

“I couldn’t imagine losing a baby so young, so fresh and new. I just couldn’t bear it,” says Kade’s cousin, Natasha Jackson.

Alexis Hawkins lives less than 50 feet away. She heard the crash from the tree on Sunday, and then a scream. She called 911.

“Immediate heartbreak, crying because I’m a mother of three, I can’t, I don’t want to imagine what it would feel like,” says Hawkins.

A GoFundMe account has been set up by Olen Gill, Kade’s father. He and his wife need help with funeral and relocation expenses. Click HERE if you’d like to donate. Our thoughts and prayers go out to this family.
