Lawnmower Parents Go To Great Lengths To Shield Their Kids From Problems
There is a new breed of parents who will do nearly anything to keep their kid from failing.
Have you heard of this new label lawnmower parents?
Instead of preparing kids for the challenges they will face in life, lawnmower parents mow down obstacles so the kids won’t experience them in the first place.
A teacher came up with the term and wrote a blog post about one lawnmower dad who was so worried that his daughter didn’t have her water bottle, that he missed work to bring it to her school.
Lawnmower parents are similar to helicopter parents, who hover over their kids and swoop in to solve any problem they face, but lawnmower parents don’t let their children encounter adversity.
Some professionals are not on board with the trend.
One child psychologist says lawnmower parents are basically telling their kid: “I do not think you are capable of handling this on your own.”
