Monroe Police To Assist Boiling Springs Lake In Aftermath Of Hurricane Florence
BOILING SPRINGS LAKE, N.C. — Nine police officers from the City of Monroe Police Department will be heading to Boiling Springs Lake in eastern North Carolina with equipment to assist law enforcement in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence.
The rural community of roughly 6,000 residents in Brunswick County was hit hard by heavy rains, and much of the community is still reeling from the damage caused by the storm.
“We received word that this community needs assistance, and we are able to share our resources with our brothers and sisters in blue to help them in their time of need,” said Monroe Police Chief Bryan Gilliard. “I know that if we were in need of assistance, other departments would be sending officers to help. This is just what you do to be a good neighbor.”
The officers will remain there through Sunday and work alongside Boiling Springs Lake officers to assist residents and ensure public safety.
FEMA will reimburse the City of Monroe for the officers’ expenses, and Boiling Springs Lake will house the officers in emergency facilities.
“I am proud of our officers and our department and am thankful that we have the ability and resources to help other communities,” said Monroe Mayor Bobby Kilgore.
