Police Identify Pedestrian Fatally Struck In East Charlotte, Excessive Speed And Alcohol Not Factors

The deceased pedestrian has been identified as 51-year-old Lal Than Zuala.

UPDATE:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — When officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department arrived to 6025 E. Independence Boulevard on Tuesday night, they located a 2000 Ford Focus and the pedestrian involved in the fatal crash.

The identity of the pedestrian who was pronounced dead will be released once his family has been notified of his death.  The driver of the Ford, 59-year-old Donna Parrish, was also located on scene but did not sustain any injuries.

Police say the Ford Focus was traveling southeast on E. Independence Blvd in the second lane from the concrete barrier when it struck the pedestrian who was crossing E. Independence Blvd.  The pedestrian was not in a designated crosswalk.

Parrish was screened for impairment and was found not to be impaired.  Excessive speed is also not suspected to be a contributing factor. Parrish was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Alcohol use by the pedestrian is suspected.

Police are investigating the crash.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police are investigating a deadly pedestrian involved accident on East Independence Boulevard.

The accident happened in the 6100 block of E. Independence shortly before 8pm near Wallace Road. CMPD says the male victim was crossing the road when the accident happened.

Medic says he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Drivers are being routed around the accident and through parking lots. Police are telling drivers to avoid the area and expect delays.
