CMPD has charged 20-year-old Sa’Quan Howard-Rooks in connection to the murder of Tunji Smith Jr. over the weekend.
Howard-Rooks was arrested Wednesday and charged with Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
The investigation into Smith’s death is ongoing.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A teen was shot and killed in west Charlotte Sunday evening.
Officers with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department were called around 7 p.m. to the 1200 block of Saratoga Drive near Browns Avenue where they found 19-year-old Tunji Smith Jr. suffering from a gunshot wound.
Medic pronounced Smith Jr. dead at the scene. His family has been notified of his death.
The shooting is under investigation.
