Search Underway For Suspect Who Broke Into Car, Used Stolen Debit Card To Make Purchases

LINCOLNTON, N.C. –Deputies are searching for a man who broke into a car, stole a woman’s purse and used her debit card to purchase several, pre-paid VISA cards from a store in Lincolnton.

Deputies with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office were called around 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21 to the walking trail parking lot on Laboratory Road where a vehicle break-in had occurred. An identified suspect had smashed the front passenger window to a woman’s vehicle and removed several items, including her purse, which was hidden under a floor mat.

The suspect used the victim’s debit card to purchase five, $100 pre-paid VISA cards from the Ingle’s store in Lincolnton.

The suspect obtained the the victim’s property by breaking into her vehicle just 30 minutes prior to the surveillance footage below.

Detectives are working to identify the man seen in the photos.
