CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two teens are facing charges after police say they stole cell phones and other items from a T-Mobile store on Thursday.
Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department say 17-year-old Matao Kenly and 16-year-old Marquis Smith entered the T-Mobile store located at 4422 E. Independence Blvd around 11:30 a.m.
While inside, the teens forced two employees to go to the back of the store while brandishing weapons. Smith and Kenly then took cell phones and other items from the business before getting into a car and fleeing the scene.
During the investigation, CMPD learned the suspects were sitting in a vehicle on Somersworth Drive.
Officers found Kenly and Smith who were later identified and matched the description of the robbery suspects.
While searching the car, officers located stolen merchandise from the T-Mobile.
Officers then transported Kenly and Smith to police headquarters where they were each charged with two counts of second degree kidnapping, robbery with dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with dangerous weapon.
Both teens were transferred to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
