HILDEBRAN, NC — A Burke County man wanted on several counts of breaking or entering and trespassing reportedly assaulted a K9 unit while they were trying to make an arrest.
Deputies say they found 28-year-old Travis Coble inside a Main Avenue West home on Thursday. On Wednesday, officials say warrants had been issued for Coble for five counts each of B&E and Second Degree Trespassing involving that same address.
A K9 unit was dispatched to the home when Coble refused to come to the door and reportedly hid himself inside. Deputies say the K9 “Zane” quickly found Coble in a basement cabinet.
When deputies opened the cabinet, they say Coble came out violently and began cussing, swinging at the deputy and kicking Zane. Deputies say Zane bit Coble before he was taken down and ultimately arrested.
Coble was treated and released at a nearby hospital. He is charged with five counts each of Breaking or Entering and Second Degree Trespassing, two counts of Assault on a Government Official Employee (both the K9 and the K9’s handler), and Resisting a Public Officer.
