WASHINGTON (AP) – Key Republican senators are undecided on Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination amid allegations of sexual misconduct against him as the Senate is poised to take a crucial vote Friday on whether to advance it.

The judge has made what are in effect closing arguments by acknowledging he became “very emotional” in forcefully denying the allegations at a Judiciary Committee hearing last week.

In an op-ed published Thursday he said he remains the same “even-keeled” person he always has been.

Senator Susan Collins says she has finished reading the report on the FBI’s investigation into the sexual allegations against Kavanaugh, but still isn’t saying how she’ll vote.

Collins is one of a handful of undecided votes leading up to Friday morning’s confirmation test vote.

Protestors demonstrating Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination are keeping the Capitol police busy. On Thursday, more than 300 protestors were arrested inside the atrium of the Senate’s office building.

The demonstrators included celebrities, like Amy Schumer, who were also detained.
