MONROE, NC — Police are looking for a possible suspect believed to be impersonating an officer. The incident was reported around 4am on October 6th by a person traveling on US 601 North near the Monroe Expressway.
The victim says they were stopped by a dark, solid colored Ford Taurus police-style sedan with a light bar on top. The suspect was reportedly dressed like a police officer and wearing a police-style duty belt, but displayed a badge that was not within Monroe’s jurisdiction.
Police say the suspect returned to his vehicle and left when questioned about his identity.
“While we believe this is an isolated incident, we take these cases very seriously and want to make sure our residents are safe,” said Monroe Police
Chief Bryan Gilliard. “We pride ourselves on our professionalism and we take great offense to someone representing themselves as an officer in our
community.”
The suspect is described as a white male in his late 30’s to early 40’s, and between 5 feet 11 inches and 6 feet tall.
