Union County Sheriff’s were called to Piedmont High School around 9:00 am Friday after students observed an unresponsive person lying in a ditch behind the bleachers of the school’s football stadium.
Authorities say a bicycle was found next to the individual and preliminary information suggested the person might have had a bicycle accident.
Sheriff’s deputies and Piedmont High School officials said the individual was a white male, appearing to be in his late teens or early 20’s.
Detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the scene and are currently following up on leads.
The decedent’s identification as well as the cause of death remains unknown and detectives do not believe the deceased was a student of the school.
