Power Restored, Road Still Closed In East Charlotte Following Accident That Took Down Power Lines

CHARLOTTE, NC — More than 4,800 people were without power in east Charlotte Monday evening after an accident took down several power lines and a utility pole.

The accident happened just after 5pm on Idlewild Road North between Harris Boulevard and Lawyers Road. Officials say a tractor trailer collided with another vehicle, which also caused damage to a nearby utility pole and brought down several power lines.

CMPD still has both the north and southbound lanes blocked off in the area while crews continue making repairs.

At this time, there is no word on when the area will reopen. Driver are encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

Police have not released any additional information on what may have led to the accident, or if anyone will face charges.
