The Latest:
Union County investigators have identified the decomposed body found in a field yesterday afternoon.
Officials say the body is that of 33-year-old Carl Melton. Melton has been missing since early August.
The Medical Examiner has not yet released the cause of death.

MONROE, NC — A death investigation is underway in Union County after a farmer discovered a decomposing body in his field.
The body was found at a farm on McManus Road at Lathan Road around 4pm on Monday.
The Union County Sheriff’s Office says the farmer was harvesting soybeans with a combine when he made the discovery.
