CHARLOTTE, NC – The Charlotte Department of Transportation announced multiple road closures Thursday, which are scheduled throughout October and November.
The closures are related to ongoing projects throughout the city, including the setting of the new Hawthorne Bridge girder over Independence Boulevard.
Officials are advising drivers to take alternate routes during these closures to avoid delays, and for everyone to use caution when traveling through the work zones. The road closures and schedules are listed below.
Updated Street Closure Notice: South Church Street (Nightly Closures Only)
Closure dates: October 15, 2018 to October 31, 2018
South Church Street (Nightly Closures Only) between West Trade Street and West Fourth Street will close on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 7 p.m. and will re-open on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 6 a.m. West Trade Street, South Poplar Street and West Third Street should be utilized as the detour. This closure is necessary for utility relocation and setting a sanitary sewer manhole for the Grand Bohemian project.
This road will be closed to all through traffic.

Street Closure Notice: US Highway 74 – East Independence Blvd
(Westbound Only, Nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.)
Closure dates: October 27, 2018 to November 2, 2018
US Highway 74 – East Independence Blvd (Westbound Only, Nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.) between Eastway Drive and Hawthorne Lane will close on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 10 p.m. and will re-open on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 5 a.m.
Motorists should utilize Eastway Drive, Central Avenue, North Kings Drive and East 4th Street for I-277; Eastway Drive, Central Avenue, and East 7th Street for Charlottetowne Avenue as the detours. This closure is necessary for the Hawthorne bridge girder erection over Independence Boulevard as part of CityLYNX Gold Line Phase 2 construction. This is a NIGHTLY closure from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m.

Street Closure Notice: Cedar Street
Closure dates: October 29, 2018 to November 19, 2018
Cedar Street at the West Trade Street and Cedar Street intersection will close on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 9 a.m. and will re-open on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 6 a.m. Motorists should use the following detour routes: from northbound Cedar Street use West 4th Street, Johnson & Wales Way, West Trade Street, I-77 Connector Road and West 5th Street; from southbound Cedar Street use West Trade Street and Johnson & Wales Way. This closure is necessary for utility work as part of the CityLYNX Gold Line Phase 2 construction.
This road will be closed to all through traffic.

Street Closure Notice: Eastbound West Trade Street
Closure dates: October 29, 2018 to November 19, 2018
Eastbound West Trade Street between Cedar Street and Graham Street will close on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 9 a.m. and will re-open on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 6 a.m. Motorists should utilize Johnson & Wales Way, West 4th Street and Graham Street as the detour. This closure is necessary for utility work as part of the CityLYNX Gold Line Phase 2 construction.
This road will be closed to all through traffic.

Street Closure Notice: Charlottetowne Avenue on-ramp to East Independence Blvd
(Daily closure from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
Closure date: October 30, 2018
Charlottetowne Avenue on-ramp to East Independence Blvd (Daily closure from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) at East 7th Street will close on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 9 a.m. and will re-open on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 3 p.m. Motorists can detour using East 7th Street, Monroe Road, Washburn Avenue and Television Place/Briar Creek Road. This closure is necessary for the new bridge construction as part of the CityLYNX Gold Line Phase 2 construction. This is a daily closure of the Charlottetowne Avenue on-ramp to East Independence Boulevard from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Street Closure Notice: US Highway 74 – East Independence Blvd
(Eastbound Only, Nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.)
Closure dates: November 2, 2018 to November 9, 2018
US Highway 74 – East Independence Blvd (Eastbound Only, Nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.) between I-277 and Briar Creek Road will close on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 10 p.m. and will re-open on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 5 a.m.
Motorists should utilize the following detour routes: from I-277 North John Belk Frwy: Exit 2A, Charlottetowne Avenue, Kings Drive, East 7th Street, Washburn Avenue and Television Place; from I-277 South Brookshire Frwy: Exit 2A, East 4th Street, McDowell Street, East 7th Street, Washburn Avenue and Television Place; from East 5th Street: McDowell Street, East 7th Street, Washburn Avenue and Television Place; from Charlottetowne Avenue: East 7th Street, Washburn Avenue and Television Place. This closure is necessary for the Hawthorne Lane bridge girder erection over Independence Boulevard as part of CityLYNX Gold Line Phase 2 construction. This is NIGHTLY closure from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. The closure will not occur on the weekend of November 3 and 4.
