CHARLOTTE, N.C. – (WCCB / CNN) The bomb suspect has Charlotte-area connections. Cesar Sayoc was arrested in 1999 by Matthews Police for possession of a stolen vehicle, according to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
WCCB has confirmed that Sayoc was a student at UNC Charlotte from 1983-84. He was on the soccer team. His major was undeclared. From 1981-1982, a student named Cesar Sayoc went to Brevard College in North Carolina and was on the soccer team (pics via The Pertelote yearbook via North Carolina Digital Heritage Center)
Sayoc was charged Friday with five federal crimes and faces up to 48 years in prison in connection to improvised explosive devices sent to prominent Democratic politicians, donors and CNN offices in New York.
