CMPD: Suspicious Package Found In Uptown Contained Journey Cassette Tape

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —  A suspicious package discovered in Uptown Charlotte proved to be harmless, officials say.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department received a suspicious package call around 6:15 a.m. at the Duke Energy building located at 400 S. Tryon St.

A bomb robot and officers were on scene investigating, but nothing came of it.

Police say the package was a small Manila envelope with a Journey cassette tape inside. With everything going on nationally, police were concerned about the handwriting.

As precaution, police closed roads and made evacuations. Since then, Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard has reopened at Church Street and Tryon Street. The area is now clear in front of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce.

This morning’s scare comes a day after a suspicious package being sent to CNN in Atlanta was intercepted and more than a dozen pipe bombs were mailed to political figures across the country.
