Man Charged With Leading Authorities On High Speed Chase In Iredell County

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office says they have charged a Charlotte man with leading authorities on a high speed chase.

A deputy attempted to stop a vehicle at the intersection of Wilson Lee Boulevard and Garner Bagnal Boulevard for vehicle violations on November 9th, according to a news release.

The vehicle, a Hyundai Santa Fe, did not stop and drove to the on-ramp on I-77 Southbound, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Officials say the driver of the vehicle finally pulled over but drove away at a high rate of speed when the deputy got out of his patrol unit.

The deputy followed the suspect vehicle and requested help from the Mooresville Police Department.  Officers were able to deploy spike strips after the pursuit entered the city limits of Mooresville, according to a news release.

The vehicle ran off the road at Mile Marker 31 and the driver fled the scene on foot, according to deputies.  Two passengers were detained while additional deputies searched for the driver.

A short time later deputies took the driver, Ryan Willis, into custody, according to a news release.  Willis has been charged with felony flee to elude, felony possession of schedule II controlled substance, failure to stop for blue lights and siren, reckless driving to endanger, driving while license revoked, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, having a revoked registration plate and speeding in a work zone.

Willis was given a $20,000 secured bond.

Willis has an extensive criminal history including assaulting a female and possessing a stolen vehicle, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.
