CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It’s Thanksgiving week and it’s no surprise people will be traveling to see family and friends.
The travel rush for Thanksgiving kicks off today, so expect more people on the roads.
AAA says more than 54 million people will travel this year for Thanksgiving, including one and a half million people in North Carolina.
We’ve broken down the best and worst times to hit the road in Charlotte.
According to Google Maps, you can avoid the crowds if you leave at 4 AM Wednesday. If you wait until 4 in the afternoon, prepared to be stuck in the worst of the traffic.
If you’re trip has routes along I-77 or I-85, add an hour to your drive time.
And with holiday travel comes stopping for gas. Thanksgiving gas prices are at the lowest level in two years.
AAA says prices are down 30 cents in the last month thanks to falling crude oil prices.
The average in North Carolina is $2.52. In Charlotte, you’ll pay about $2.45.
Charlotte-Douglas Airport says the busy days will be tomorrow and Wednesday.
