Driver Facing Additional Charges After Deadly West Charlotte Hit And Run

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police have issued more charges on the driver they say hit a pedestrian in west Charlotte on November 14th and took off.

On Tuesday, Robert Pilot, 51, was additionally charged with Felony Death by Motor Vehicle.

CMPD says the accident happened just before 2am on Queen City Drive near I-85. The victim, 54-year-old Michael Villasenor, was hit while walking and taken by Medic to Atrium Health with life-threatening injuries.

Officials say Villasenor died around 7:30pm on Saturday, November 24.

A witness who was walking with Villasenor, along with pieces of the vehicle collected at the scene, reportedly helped investigators identify and locate Pilot’s SUV in the parking lot of a nearby Econo-Lodge Inn and Suites.

Police say Pilot was found to be impaired when officers placed him under arrest. He was initially charged with DWI and Felony Hit and Run in connection to the accident.

At this time, investigators say they do not know if Villasenor was impaired or if speed also played a role in the accident.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
