Phone Call About Possible Violence Prompts Lockdown At Dowd YMCA

CHARLOTTE, NC — The Dowd YMCA was on lockdown for about one hour Monday afternoon after officials at the facility say someone made an anonymous phone call about possible violence related to a domestic dispute.

The call was reportedly made around 4pm. A spokesperson for the YMCA of Greater Charlotte says, “The anonymous caller was concerned that the dispute could be coming to the Dowd YMCA.”

CMPD responded to the incident and advised the Y to go on lockdown until the area could be secured.

For roughly one hour officials say members and staff were allowed to leave the facility but no one was allowed to enter. The lockdown was lifted shortly after 5pm.

The investigation is ongoing.
