Chilly End to the Week

Chilly end to the week with highs in the 40s today and tomorrow. We could see a light coating of snow across the higher elevations, just enough to make the roads slick. Winter weather advisory in place for Ashe, Avery and Watauga Counties until 6pm. Our next weather maker will move in this weekend. Likely just a cold rain event through the day on Saturday for areas south of I-40. This will transition to a wintry mix overnight as temps drop below freezing. Significant accumulation looking more likely across the high country. Will feel more comfortable putting totals out Thursday/Friday, but as of now could see 8-12″ across the higher elevations. Wintry mix will continue through early next week. Depending, once again on where this system pulls into place we could be dealing with even a messy (icy) situation across the Piedmont Sunday into Monday.
