Toyota of N Charlotte tips: What to do AFTER buying a used car

buying a used vehicleSo you did your research, took a test drive, and signed the dotted line… and now you’re the proud owner of a Charlotte used car. Congratulations – a car is a big and important purchase and buying one is definitely a milestone in your life. However, the work isn’t quite done. A lot of drivers think that once they’ve signed the paperwork it’s as simple as sliding into the driver’s seat, but there are a few things you should take care of AFTER you buy your used car. Toyota of N Charlotte has tips!

Do you know what steps to take after a used car purchase?

Tip #1: Make sure your paperwork is sorted out. When you buy a used car at Toyota of N Charlotte, you’ll be taken care of in terms of paperwork. Our finance associates will take care of all of it for you before you even leave the dealership, including your tag. However, if you buy your car privately or from another car dealer,  you may not have the same courtesy. In this instance you’ll need to schedule a trip to the DMV so you can transfer the title and registration and take care of the tag. Not completing this step can get you into big trouble down the road, so make it a priority.

Tip #2: Sign up for car insurance. It’s illegal to drive without car insurance and you can end up getting ticketed or worse. It’s also very irresponsible to drive without it! Before you hit the road in your new ride, make sure you get insured. You can sign up for a new policy or just add your Charlotte used car to an existing policy – either way, you need to be covered before you get behind the wheel.

Tip #3: Schedule an appointment with a mechanic. If you bought your used car from Toyota of N Charlotte, then you can get peace of mind knowing that our mechanics inspected it, and a lot of our vehicles come with warranties as well. If you bought a car from another dealer or a private seller, it’s advisable to visit a mechanic with your new ride. They can give it a bumper-to-bumper inspection to ensure you don’t have any issues or problems that will be costly down the road.

Tip #4: Take time to read your owner’s manual. Pull the owner’s manual out of the glovebox and read through it. This manual will give you essential maintenance information like what type of gas and oil to use, what level to inflate your tires to, and more. It’ll also help you troubleshoot (like figuring out dashboard lights that come on) as well as give you a clear idea of what your car is capable of when it comes to performance, especially things like towing and hauling.
