CHARLOTTE, NC — Police are investigating an accident in east Charlotte that left one person dead and another injured Friday afternoon.
The accident happened shortly after 1pm on Eastway Drive near Shamrock Drive. Investigators say 27-year-old Eldridge Jenkins was driving a 2008 Pontiac G6 when he lost control and entered oncoming traffic lanes while going around a curve.
Jenkins vehicle reportedly clipped the rear of an oncoming 2016 Toyota Tacoma, spinning it 180 degrees, before continuing into the path of an oncoming 2013 Ford multi-passenger bus. Police say the bus hit Jenkins’ vehicle in the passenger side.
CMPD says Jenkins died at the scene. The bus driver was transported with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Toyota pickup was not injured.
Jenkins was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed when the accident occurred. Investigators say they are now looking for a white four door Audi that was also seen speeding through the area just seconds before the crash and may possibly be linked to Jenkins.
The Audi did not come in contact with any vehicles involved in the accident.
At this time, CMPD says the drivers of the bus and Toyota were not violating any traffic laws when the crash occurred.
