Is It OK To Regift A Present?
Maybe it was once considered a holiday faux pas, but now more people say it is socially acceptable to re-wrap an old present and give it to someone else.
Even the president is a re-gifter.
Donald Trump Jr. told the entertainment news show Extra that he will often get monogrammed stuff his dad doesn’t want, because they both share the same name.
“I’m the namesake, so I got re-gifted all the things that were monogrammed for him at times,” Trump Jr. said. “There was one Christmas where he may or may not have given me the gift I had given him the year before, because I had monogrammed it.”
79% of people now say it’s okay to give a second life to gifts, but etiquette experts say there are rules to re-gifting.
Give it time, don’t re-gift right away.
You should also shy away from re-gifting with your immediate family or within the same social circles.
Make sure the gift is the right fit for the person you plan to give it to.
Make sure it has some value: don’t re-gift something worthless or homemade.
Finally, keep the gift in its original packaging.
