CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Four people have been charged after police say a car was stolen from an apartment complex and used in an armed robbery in southeast Charlotte on Tuesday.
Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department were called around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday to Teal Point Drive near N. Sharon Amity Road where a white, Honda Accord had been stolen at an apartment complex parking lot.
Police say the car was left running and unattended.
On Wednesday, officers learned around 7 p.m. that the same car was used in an armed robbery that occurred on Dunlavin Way near E. Independence Boulevard. The robbery involved four suspects who robbed a man at gunpoint in the parking lot. The man was unharmed.
About half an hour later, the Honda Accord was located traveling on Queen City Boulevard. One suspect exited the car on Pawtucket Road and the other three suspects stayed in the car. Police located the car on Little Rock Road, but the suspects refused to stop. A vehicle pursuit began and ended when the car hit another vehicle on Queen City Boulevard at Mulberry Church Road.
No injuries were reported in the crash.
The remaining three suspects all ran from the car, but were eventually caught by police. Officers also located the suspect who exited the Honda Accord.
Police have charged 16-year-old Damauri Bailey, 17-year-old Dedrick Benton, 17-year-old Octavion McClellan and 18-year-old Travon Wingo for their involvement in the case.
