CHARLOTTE, N.C. β City of Charlotte offices will close Monday, Dec. 24; Tuesday, Dec. 25; and Tuesday, Jan. 1, in observance of the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS)
On Monday, CATS will operate buses, LYNX trains and the CityLYNX streetcar according to their Saturday schedules. On Tuesday, service will operate a Sunday schedule. Weekday service will resume on Wednesday.
The LYNX Blue Line will operate extra service before and after the Belk Bowl, which is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 29.
CATS Customer Service will be closed on Monday and Tuesday. They will also be closed on Jan. 1.
On Dec. 31, CATS will operate extra LYNX Blue Line service in support of CLT New Yearβs Eve activities. Buses, trains and the streetcar will operate according to their regular schedules on that day.
On Jan. 1, CATS will operate buses, trains and the streetcar on a Sunday schedule.
Solid Waste Services
City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services will observe the Christmas holiday on Monday and Tuesday and will not collect garbage, recycling, yard waste or bulky items on those days.
All customers should place garbage and recycling carts curbside on Wednesday and leave carts curbside until serviced. Yard waste and bulky item collection will be suspended for the week. Large cardboard boxes that are unable to fit in the recycling cart should be placed next to the cart for collection.

- How to Prepare For Collection
- Please ensure that the lid on your garbage and recycling rollout carts are down.
- Please place the cart within six feet of the curb and with the handle facing toward your property. Do not block the sidewalk.
- Please allow three feet of space between collection items and other obstacles such as mailboxes, phone poles and vehicles.
- Place the cart at the curb no later than 6:00 am on Wednesday, December 26 and leave at the curb until collected.
- All recyclables should be loose in the cart. Recyclables should not be bagged.
- For recycling: no plastic bags. Plastic bags aren’t accepted and should be recycled at local grocery store. Styrofoam and plastic plates and cups should be thrown in the garbage.

Sanitary sewer overflows can be caused by blockages in pipes from fats, oils and grease. Charlotte Water asks residents to avoid putting grease, oils and fats down the drain this holiday season. Follow these simple instructions for proper disposal of grease, oils and fats:
- Drain cooking grease, oils or fats into a can.
- Wipe the pan with a paper towel.
- Toss the can and paper towel in the trash.
