CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 23-year-old man is dead after a head-on collision in north Charlotte.
Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department were called on Wednesday around 4:45 p.m. to the 10200 block of Statesville Road adjacent to the Bill Lee Freeway where Tafari Daiyaan Bradley was found dead as a result from a head-on collision.
Iredell County EMS pronounced Bradley dead on scene and transported the other driver, 68-year-old Kathleen Briscoe, to Atrium Health with life-threatening injuries.
Bradley’s family has been notified of his death.
Police say a black, 2012 Honda CRV, driven by Briscoe, was traveling south on Statesville Road when it went left of center directly into the path of a silver 2014 Infiniti Q50, driven by Bradley, traveling north. The Infiniti swerved right and partially off the roadway to avoid the crash, but was still struck by the Honda. The Honda came to a stop in the northbound lane of the roadway, and the Infiniti was spun around and off the roadway to the east.
Authorities say alcohol and speed were not factors in Bradley’s death. They also say speed was not a factor for Briscoe, but impairment is still under investigation.
Briscoe is said to be in critical condition, according to police.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about it is asked to call 704-432-2169 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
