EDGE: CIAA Tournament’s Days In Charlotte Are Numbered

The CIAA Tournament’s days in Charlotte are reportedly numbered.
There has been no official announcement, but Charlotte city leaders say the tournament is moving to Baltimore, Maryland after the 2020 season.
Charlotte has hosted the tournament since 2006, but Norfolk, Virginia and Baltimore also put in bids, with Baltimore offering $2 million in scholarship funding.

The annual tournament generates roughly $50-million in economic impact, but has also made headlines off the court in recent years.
In 2017, Memphis rapper Young Dolph’s SUV was shot into on North Graham Street; he was in Charlotte to perform at a party that was not a CIAA sanctioned event.
During the 2016 tournament, someone fired 40 to 50 shoots with an AK47 outside the Hyatt Place hotel in Uptown Charlotte and in 2014, two people were shot at a party in the Sheraton Hotel on McDowell Street during a party featuring Diddy.
