Suspect Charged In University Area Murder

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — CMPD has charged a suspect in connection to the man who was shot in the University area Sunday, and died three days later.

Shawn Sanders, 17, was arrested Thursday morning and charged with First Degree Murder and First Degree Burglary.

Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department say Subhi Elmasharawy, 22, died at the hospital Wednesday. He was taken there with life threatening injuries after being shot around 9pm on January 6th.

The shooting happened on Pimpernel Road just off I-485 Inner Loop near Back Creek. Police are still investigating what led up to the shooting.
