Wintry Mix For Some This Weekend
After a freezing start this morning temps will reach the upper 40s this afternoon under mainly sunny skies. Clouds increase overnight as moisture moves into the region. Saturday will bring a variety of weather beginning with the potential for a brief snow shower Saturday morning. Little to no accumulation expected. The real wintry mix will move in late Saturday. Period of light snow/sleet may impact the Piedmont, but for the most part this will be a cold rain event for areas south of I-40. The mountains will likely receive 2-4″ of snow through Monday with the potential for about 0.1-0.2″ of ice. Areas near the I-40 corridor could receive trace to about an inch of snow with about 0.1″ of ice accumulation from sleet and freezing rain. Everyone north of I-40 and especially the higher elevations should be wary of slick roads this weekend. This system will move out on Monday with temperatures rebounding back into the 50s by the middle of the next week.
