Neighbors in Charlotte & York County Dealing With Trash Troubles For Weeks

MECKLENBURG COUNTY– Neighbors in Charlotte and York County dealing with trash troubles for more than a month.

WCCB learned Mecklenburg county is stepping in to help.

Almost a month’s worth of trash bags piling up in William Blakeman’s  garage. Walk to his curb on Hunting Birds Lane in Steele Creek, and you’ll see overflowing trash cans. He’s sick of the mess and the foul stench.

“It’s starting to permeate, they’re starting to become an odor,” says Blakeman.

Blakeman contracts with Carolina disposal of Charlotte. He says the trash company has been a no-show since the week before Christmas.

Representative Chaz Beasley has been flooded with emails from constituents complaining about Carolina Disposal not picking up. Beasley says he’s tried to contact the company dozens of times.

“Carolina Disposal needs to take responsibility for their actions and understand that they’re going to lose a lot of customers because of this, and how they responded to this the correct way we would’ve been having a very different conversation.”

Beasley sent a letter to Carolina Disposal on Friday and to the state attorney generals office hoping to launch an investigation. Tuesday, Mecklenburg County will begin picking up the trash.

“The county has agreed here in Mecklenburg County to come and pick up trash from anyone that’s been affected so please contact our office if you need trash pick up in the next few days I’ll get it done.”

Carolina Disposal blamed the collection delays on a fire back in December.

Carolina Disposal has an F grade with the Better Business Bureau. It has had 72 complaints.

Residents near Fort Mill say company did pick up their trash Tuesday.
