STATESVILLE, NC — An inmate at the Iredell County Detention Center is facing new charges after he allegedly assaulted several guards on January 6th.
Officials say 22-year-old Khaleel Mangum, of Charlotte, was in a holding cell around 8pm when he began “causing a disturbance.” Detention officers reportedly went to check on Mangum, but say he refused to follow directions when asked to step out of the cell.
When officers tried to escort him out, officials say he began resisting.
Officers did manage to subdue Mangum, officials say, but one suffered a fractured leg bone and another suffered a thumb injury during the altercation.
Detention center officials say Mangum was in the holding cell as a security precaution that resulted from several prior incidents involving him.
He is now additionally charged with two counts of Felony Assault on a Person Employed at a State or Local Detention Facility. Mangum was in the facility for violating a domestic violence protective order, and has previously been arrested on Assault by Strangulation and Resisting Public Officer charges.
