Two Men Arrested For Breaking Into Vehicles In East Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police say they arrested two men for breaking into several vehicles in east Charlotte.
Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a suspicious person call on January 17th just after 3:30am on Old Gate Drive. The 911 caller reported seeing two people looking into parked vehicles in the area. The caller provided a description of the suspect vehicle which was located a short time later at a Circle K gas station on E. Independence Boulevard, according to a news release.
Police say they detained the people inside the vehicle and found property belonging to a victim whose vehicle was broken into on Old Gate Drive.
Dontrell Kirkland and Ceon McCormick were both taken into custody and interviewed. Officers determined the vehicle Kirkland and McCormick were driving had been stolen the day before in the University area of Charlotte. Officers also determined two additional vehicle break-ins were reported on Catskill Drive near Old Gate Drive.
Kirkland and McCormick were each charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle, two counts of felony larceny, possession of a stolen vehicle and felony conspiracy. Kirkland was also served with an unrelated outstanding warrant, according to a news release.
