Winter Weather Advisory for Mountains on Tuesday
Sunny start to the week with highs reaching the low to mid 50s this afternoon. Moisture returns on Tuesday with the potential for snow beginning early morning for the mountains and foothills. Avery, Ashe, Watauga, Burke and Caldwell counties under a Winter Weather Advisory from 5am until 7pm Tuesday. The highest elevations may see 2-4″ of snow with the foothills looking at up to an inch. The rest of the area will be dealing with a cold rain beginning late morning. There could be a brief transition late Tuesday into a light rain/snow mix, but no accumulation is expected. Dry and cold through the rest of the week with highs in the 40s and overnight lows dropping to the teens and 20s. Wind chills could fall to 15 below zero for the mountains by Thursday morning. Temps rebound by the weekend.
