Suspect Charged With Breaking Into Several Matthews Area Businesses

Matthews Police have charged 32-year-old David Weikle for break-ins that occurred earlier this month.

Weikle is charged with two counts of Breaking and/or Entering and one count of Larceny After Break/Enter. Police say warrants were served on Weikle at the Mecklenburg County Jail where he is being held on other charges.

MATTHEWS, NC — Police need help identifying the suspect they say broke into several businesses early Tuesday morning at a shopping center on Matthews Township Parkway.

The crimes all happened just before 4:30am. Police say witnesses initially reported a man trying to kick in the front door of Massage Envy. When officers arrived however, they say no damage or signs of an attempted break-in were found at that location.

Officers then performed a quick survey of the area and say break-ins were found at the Tropical Smoothie Cafe and Jimmy John’s nearby. In both instances, the suspect had reportedly broken in through the front glass doors.

The suspect is described as man standing about six feet tall with a medium build, and last seen wearing a grey hoodie, dark colored sweatpants and a dark colored backpack.
