CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools says no weapons were found after Wednesday’s random safety screenings at two area schools.
Four random classroom safety screenings were done between 7:15 and 8am at Harding University (a CMS comprehensive high school) and Mallard Creek High School. Officials say the schools and classrooms screened were each selected during a random drawing Monday.
No individual students were selected to be screened, according to CMS.
The screenings at Harding were observed by the CMS Superintendant’s InterFaith Advisory Council (IFAC)Β member Rose Hamid.
The Mallard Creek screenings were observed byΒ Dr. Rev. Rodney S. Sadler Jr., Associate Professor of Bible at Union Presbyterian Seminary and associate pastor of Mount Carmel Baptist Church.
The following messages were sent to parents at the start and end of Wednesday’s screenings:

AFTER SAFETY SCREENING COMPLETED FROM PRINCIPAL TO FAMILIES
(SCHOOL NAME) families,
This is Principal (NAME) calling to let you know that a safety screening was conducted today on our campus to help keep weapons out of our school. Todayβs screening was a precaution only β there was no threat or emergency. All students and staff at our school are safe. Todayβs safety screening was very similar to screenings we all participate in before entering football games and other school special events. Our staff, parents and students all wish safety screenings were not needed, but weapons must not be in our schools. I am happy to share that no weapons were found during todayβs safety screening and classes were only minimally disrupted today. Please talk to your students and remind them that weapons have no place at school. Thank you for your support of (SCHOOL NAME).
