CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The UNC Charlotte Center City building was placed on lockdown after someone was shot in front of the campus, according to police.
The incident happened just after 9:00am near the campus on E. 9th Street in Uptown Charlotte. Police say a man was walking down the street with a friend when a vehicle pulled up and someone fired shots. The victim was hit in the buttocks but is expected to survive.
Several windows at the UNC Charlotte Center City campus were damaged by bullets, according to a news release. No one was injured inside the building. Police say they do not believe the victim or the suspect were associated with UNC Charlotte.
Other schools in the area were also placed on lockdown. No arrests have been made at this time but police say there are a lot of cameras in the area so they are currently looking at the video for more information on the suspect.
