Charlotte City Council Trying to Fill Funding Gap for Cross Charlotte Trail

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte City Council is looking for a way to move forward with the Cross Charlotte trail. City staff recently discovered they miscalculated the cost, leaving a $77 million dollar shortfall.

It would be a 26-mile trail that would go from Ballantyne to UNC Charlotte and connect several greenways.

At a strategy session Monday night, council members looked at several different options to deal with the shortfall.

One is to re-prioritize which segments to build. They are also talking about partnering with the private sector to find more funding.

But most council members seem to be leaning toward an option to go ahead and build portions that are already planned and designed.

Those segments run from Ballantyne to Uptown and connect to each other.
