CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives say they charged a man for a homicide that happened in Charlotte in 1991.
Investigators say the family of 25-year-old Yolanda Hoey reported her missing on February 3, 1991. Seven days later, she was found deceased in her vehicle parked on Ventura Way in the Hidden Valley neighborhood, according to a news release. Police say she had been shot several times.
On Monday, January 28th, cold case detectives presented the case to the Mecklenburg County Grand Jury who in turn indicted Louis Samuels on a charge of first degree murder.
Samuels is currently in federal custody at Beckley Federal Correctional Institution. He has been scheduled for release on June 18, 2019.
CMPD’s Homicide Cold Case Unit has been in existence since 2003. The unit has reviewed 178 homicides dating as far back as 1979, according to a news release. The unit has cleared 48 cases.
