ASHE COUNTY, NC — Ashe County Public Schools will be closed on Friday, February 8th due to an increase in flu outbreaks.
The school district made the announcement Thursday afternoon. Officials say custodians will be on hand to perform deep cleanings at all of the schools in an effort to prevent further spread of flu germs.
State health officials have cited an increase in cases throughout the state, as well as a growing number of deaths caused by the virus. Hospitals throughout the area have also implemented new visitor guidelines to help better protect both visitors and patients.
Health officials say it is still not to late to receive a flu shot.
