Man Accused Of Stealing Packages From South Charlotte Homes

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Another porch pirate is behind the bars. Police have arrested a 45-year-old man after they say he stole packages from several homes in south Charlotte.

Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have charged Gerald McConnell for his involvement in the cases below.

  • On Jan. 18: At approximately 4:38 p.m., the victim stated someone took a package off of her porch on S. Wendover Road near Forest Drive.
  • On Feb. 1: At approximately 2:56 p.m., the victim called to file a report of a larceny on Lorna Street near Chantilly Park. A package was taken from the porch.
  • On Feb. 1: At approximately 6:12 p.m., the victim stated a package was taken from a home on Lorna Street near Kingsbury Drive. A neighbor was able to provide a photo of the suspect and vehicle.

Police sent out photos of McConnell and his car to the community to make members aware of the package thefts in the neighborhood.

On Feb. 6, residents of the Chantilly neighborhood observed a white, male suspect driving a silver Chevrolet Tahoe stealing a package from a front porch on Chesterfield Avenue near Bascom Street.

After seeing the suspect and suspect vehicle that matched the description police sent out, a community member called 9-1-1.

Officers responded and located McConnell’s vehicle. A traffic stop was then completed.  The stolen package from Chesterfield Avenue was located in the car, as well as a package that had been stolen earlier in The Plaza in east Charlotte.

McConnell was arrested and transported to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. He was charged with four counts of misdemeanor larceny, three counts of possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance.
