The Latest:
Well’s Fargo has issued an update to customers say the issue is “not due to any cybersecurity event” and that “any Wells Fargo fees incurred as a result of these issues will be reversed.”
The company did not however, provide an update on when the issues are expected to be resolved.
Original Story (Feb. 7, 2019 at 6:15pm)
CHARLOTTE, NC — It has been at least nine hours since Wells Fargo began experiencing issues with their online banking and mobile app, and there’s no telling when it may end.
The bank first issued an apology for the interruption around 9:30am, saying they were researching the issue and customers should check back for updates.
The last update however, came just before 1pm when Wells Fargo tweeted a message sayingΒ they were “experiencing system issues due to a power shutdown at one of our facilities, initiated after smoke was detected following routine maintenance” and working to restore services as soon as possible.
Since then, the Wells Fargo Twitter account has gone silent. Customers have not.
Wells Fargo customers across the country are voicing frustrations, saying they do not have access to their money or bank account info. Debit cards are being declined, and some customers are saying money deposited into ATMs today has gone missing because the machines would not print receipts or send email confirmations.
One customer tweeted that she even went into the branch office after such an incident occurred and was told “there is nothing the branch can do.”
Amidst the frustrations, customers are also calling for Wells Fargo to waive any fees that will be associated with missed or late payments due to the outage.
This is the second time in less than a week the bank has experienced a mass service outage. On February 1st, Wells Fargo services were down for over five hours. Similarly, customers were left unable to use ATMs, the mobile app and online banking resources.
As for now, it seems all customers can do is sit, wait and hope the issue will be resolved soon.
