Suspect In East Charlotte Business Owner’s Murder Arrested In Texas

The Latest:

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say the man accused of killing an east Charlotte business owner on January 14th has been located in Dallas, Texas.

Tyrone Miller, 28, was arrested Monday in connection to the murder of Elchin Khalilov.

Miller is currently awaiting extradition to Mecklenburg County. Once returned, he will be served warrants for Murder, Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and Firearm by Felon.

Officials say the arrest was made in collaboration with the FBI and Dallas Police Department.

Update (Jan. 31, 2019):

At the news conference, CMPD released new surveillance video of the suspect who they say entered the FixEr Electronics Store on North Sharon Amity Road and fatally shot Khalilov on January 14th.

Police say Kahlilov was cooperative and did not resist in any way when the suspect walked in and pointed a gun at him.

The suspect is described as a black male who was wearing a “distinctive” hoodie with the word ‘LOVE’ written on both sleeves.

Anyone with information on this suspect’s identity or whereabouts is asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

The FBI has also joined the search, and is offering an additional $10,000 reward. The total reward being offered is now $15,000.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are investigating a homicide that happened Monday morning at a business in east Charlotte.

Officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call at FixEr Electronic Repair, a cell phone repair store, on North Sharon Amity Road near Albemarle Road just before 11am.

Upon arrival, police say they found 29-year-old Elchin Khalilov suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.  He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No other details have been released at this time.  Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective.
