NYC Hairstyle Discrimination Law

It’s a first nationwide…. In New York City, discriminating against someone based on their hairstyle is not illegal. The New York City commission on Human Rights issued the new regulations on Monday. The protections apply to everyone but were prompted largely by what the commission calls “racist stereotypes that black hairstyles are unprofessional.

The issue made headlines in December, when a New Jersey referee ordered a black high-school wrestler to cut off his dreadlocks or forfeit.

Do you think every state needs this law?
