Rain and Wintry Weather Returns

Waking up to some showers and even a little sleet south of Charlotte. Widespread rain returns late this afternoon across the Piedmont. Highs today will only reach the mid 40s under cloudy skies. For areas north of I-40 likely to pick up an accumulation of snow, sleet and freezing rain. Winter storm warning for the mountains and northern foothills beginning at 6pm until 4pm Wednesday. Rain begins late this afternoon transitioning to sleet and snow late this evening. Likely this will transition over to a freezing rain and then rain event on Wednesday. Total ice accumulation of .25″ will be possible with up to 1″ of snow and sleet. For those north of I-40, a winter weather advisory goes into effect at 6pm until 4pm Wednesday. Rain will transition over to freezing rain overnight. Up to .1-.2″ of ice will be possible. Soggy, but warmer through the rest of the week with 1-3″ of rain likely through the weekend.
