Original Story:

CONCORD, N.C. — Concord Police say they are investigating a deadly shooting that happened near the entrance of the emergency room at CMC Northeast.

The shooting reportedly happened around 1pm in the parking lot at 920 Church Street North. Concord Police say the victim, identified as Damon Bruce, was shot in the head just outside the hospital.

“This is the first time I’ve ever experienced something like that. It’s crazy,” said Tyler Moore, who was at the hospital to visit his fiance.

Cabarrus County paramedics were in the hospital’s ambulance bay nearby when the shooting happened, police say, and provided immediate treatment. Bruce died from injuries however, a short time later.

“This is supposed to be a safe place where people can come and right now its not,” said Moore.

A suspect has been detained.  Police say the two men knew each other and reportedly got into an altercation in the emergency room parking lot that resulted in the shooting.

The alleged suspect is still being interviewed by police and has not been charged at this time. His name has not yet been released.
