Enjoy a tribute to legendary bassist Charles Mingus at this popular Uptown jazz concert series sponsored
by The Jazz Arts Initiative. There are four chances to catch this performance: At 6 and 8:15 p.m. on
Friday, and 7 and 9:15 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $14 in advance or $16 at the door, and there’s a cash
bar inside. This is one of our hidden gems – a small, intimate theater at the corner of College and 5 th
streets, on the back side of the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center. Bassist Neal Caine will perform with
other Charlotte musicians as they honor Charles Mingus, one of the most influential musicians in
American history, and a giant of jazz.

Pop over to Sycamore Brewing in South End for a free raw bar this Sunday, Feb. 24, at 3:00 p.m. They’ll
have oysters on the half-shell from South End restaurant The Waterman, plus all of the trimmings. And
you can find cold beer to wash it all down. Make a day out of it and take a walk on the Rail Trail to
explore nearby shopping, dining, and more breweries throughout South End. But get there early,
because the oysters won’t last!
